This is the warbler that has literally played some very strange tricks on me (of which I will go into at a later date) but this time...I heard him singing in the forest while driving with the windows down...

I pulled the car over and there he was!

The back of his head looked as if a child was using watercolors and dipped the yellow paint in the green without cleaning the brush....then painted a very nice wide stripe - starting on his crown and going down the back of his body :-)

And of course he had an extremely black throat!

It's funny how different these ID marks look in each picture...

How lucky we photographers are...to not only experience these miracles...but then get to examine our images again and again...each time seeing something we missed on our first encounter!
And the only thing better? I think...it would be...to draw and paint these gorgeous creatures!

I'm so happy for you Barb. Glad you finally saw this beautiful little guy. He really is colorful!!!!
What amazes me is HOW you recognize one bird from another by their song... I get more and more confused--especially when some of them have SEVERAL songs. I just get all mixed up. How do you really learn the songs????
Hugs,
Betsy
Gorgeous photos!! This is one of my favorites.
Wonderful Barb! You did such a good job stopping and finding him! Wow! Maybe this is the fellow I had here back in early May!!! I sent him up to you! No need to thank me, it was my pleasure!

Such nice photos of this little warbler...I love your analogy of the water coloring attempts of a child..I know these images well having taught that age for a while..lol.
Great post and as always very nice photos!
Congrats on finding him..after hearing him from your car..did you pish for him?
Beautiful series, the crisp details is what stands out in these images. The 2nd shot with a clear background is very well composed.
Wonderful photographs. Isn't it so great to finally photograph a bird you've wanted? These are lovely.
[clap, clap, clap] Well done! Nice captures of this lil guy! I have yet to find one...
What a wonderful capture!
These were so thrilling to see - just absolutely beautiful photos!!
Every picture was different and beautiful. To have him seem to pose for each shot had to be such a thrill for you! You are getting really good at 'hearing' the bird before 'seeing'. What all of us wish we could do!! Great job girl!
I have always marveled at what "great eyes" you must have to see the tiniest of birds way up in the treetops, but now I also marvel at what "great ears" you must have to be able to hear a particular bird as you are driving along--Obviously it wasn't on a super highway with the windows up and the air conditioning on..
The pictures are precious..I especially liked the bird's expression in the 5th one. Your blog is always a special treat!
What a lovely little bird! My favorite photos are the third and fifth ones. I haven't seen one of these yet, I hope I will soon! Beautiful photos :)
What a fun story and magical images. My recent black-throated green lifer was a female and I was thrilled to get a few fuzzy images. These are wonderful!
A gift from God indeed! What a cool bird! Love those colors...he looks quite perturbed in that one picture though. Wonder what he was so upset about?
You are a very gifted photographer, Barb! :-)
Your photos are excellent..
thanks for posting all of them..it helps me to learn by looking at all the different angles!
Great photos of very pretty little birds well done.
Oh, my heavens! Your photos of this beauty are simply stunning!!! I bow in your general direction, Barb!
